The recent earthquake that struck Turkiye and Syria was a devastating catastrophe that claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction. It is one of the most catastrophic events in the history of Anatolia, with the earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake struck on February 06, 2023, with its epicenter located in Turkey. According to the US Geological Survey, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit near the city of Gaziantep at 04:17 local time (01:17 GMT). The earthquake occurred at a depth of 17.9km (11 miles). . The earthquake triggered numerous aftershocks, causing massive damage to buildings and infrastructure in both Turkey and Syria. The death toll has already surpassed 50,000 people, with thousands more injured or missing. Concerns have been raised that the true death toll will be much higher than what has been publicly stated.
